- India and Australia will play each other in five Tests between 2024-2025 and 2027.
- The ICC Future Tours Programme cycle includes 777 international matches.
- This will include 173 tests, 281 one-day internationals, and 323 Twenty20 internationals.
The international calendar for cricket was revealed on Wednesday, and it included two five-match series between India and Australia between the years 2024 and 2027. Each series would consist of two home games and three away games.
The two heavyweights have traditionally battled against one another for the Border-Gavaskar trophy in a maximum of four Tests in one series. However, Australia will host India for five Tests in 2024-2025, and the two teams will play one other again in India in 2027.
It has been more than three decades since they last competed in a series that consisted of all five tests, so this will be their first opportunity to do so.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that its 12 member nations will compete in a total of 777 international matches over the course of the next Future Tours Programme cycle, which will run from 2023 until 2027. This will include 173 tests, 281 one-day internationals, and 323 Twenty20 internationals.
Ricky Ponting, a legend of Australian cricket, expressed his excitement over the possibility of his country and India playing each other in five matches.
Ponting stated in an ICC programme that “I think spectators from Australia and India and probably anyone that loved the game around the world would have liked to have seen more Test matches between Australia and India.”
“So absolutely I think it’s a fantastic initiative and more importantly, I think all the players will really enjoy that as well.”
During the years 2023-2027, the most Test matches will be played among Australia, India, and England, who are collectively referred to as the “Big Three” of cricket.
The next cycle will also contain five big ICC events, the first of which will be the 50-over World Cup, which will be held in India in the following year.
