Nation should help flood victims, struggle for real freedom: Imran Khan

Imran Khan was addressing a political rally in Jhelum.

JHELUM: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said he will continue to struggle for the nation until they receive real freedom and will raise unprecedented funds for the flood victims.

Addressing a rally in Jhelum, he said the nation is going through a testing time with the recent floods which have destroyed the nation. He said parts of south Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan have been affected by the flood and the nation needs to fight the crisis united.

He said PTI will raise a volunteer force to help provincial governments in relief operations. Furthermore, Imran Khan said he will hold a telethon to raise funds for flood victims. He said PTI will form a flood relief committe, chaired by Dr Sania Nishtar, to collect funds for relief operations.

Imran Khan said governments cannot control natural disasters but can make arrangements to reduce risks. He slammed previous governments for failure to build dams to store rainwater. He said the PTI announced to build ten dams during its tenure.

He said the PTI government built embankments to protect the city of Nowshera which was destroyed during 2010 floods. “In Karachi and rest of Sindh, either there is no water or the city drowns in rain,” he said, adding the Government of Punjab built underwater tanks to control the flood situation in Lahore.

“I am not doing politics, I am waging a war for real freedom. I am1 fighting for rule of law to make this country an Islamic welfare state,” he vowed. “This will continue through war and floods until we get real freedom”.

He lashed out at the PDM government for criticizing him for holding political rallies during floods. “We will do such an excellent job in flood relief that you have done in your life,” he said, adding that he will continue his struggle against those who have plundered the nation.

“Pakistan faces the hottest month in April. I was still on the streets. And I will remain fight till we receive real freedom. I will continue to collect funds for the flood victims,” he said.

Imran Khan said Finance Minister Miftah Ismail is claiming PTI is sabotaging the IMF deal. He said the government received a nation in default with the highest debts, but still had the highest growth rate in 2018 as revealed by the economic survey. He said the economy has declined, inflation has reached highest rate ever and debts have increased.

He said Miftah Ismail didn’t meet the KP Finance Minister for two months and is asking for a surplus after devastating floods. “Maybe you should tell the IMF to give concession after the national debt. Have the courage to fight for your rights.”

He said the government has registered a terrorism case against him to sideline the largest political party in the nation. He said Shehbaz Gill and journalist Jameel Farooqi were tortured while other credible journalists have left the nation.

The PTI chairman concluded that the entire nation should get to help the flood victims and fight for real freedom in the country.
